Anton Gartran is a minor antagonist in Stuart Little. He is a boat racer who is George's arch-rival and bully.
Stuart Little[]
Anton is only seen at the Central Park boat race, where he spots George and taunts him for his boat stating "Someone's got to finish last". Later, when Stuart accidentally breaks the remote control to George's boat, Anton and some of his friends nearby start laughing. Later, during the race it is clear that Anton will stop at nothing to win the race and thus begins purposefully colliding his boat into other children's boats making them sink and disqualifying the other children from the race. However, when he attempts to collide George's boat with Stuart on it, the sails on both boats collide together, causing Stuart to have to climb up and snap the sail off Anton's boat. Meanwhile, George fights Anton in rage when he calls Stuart "a stupid rat", forcing his father to break it up. But after recovering from the fight, Anton's remote control stops working (possibly due to Stuart snapping the sail or Anton accidentally messing the remote with his elbow during the fight with George), and his boat goes in another direction while Stuart manages to win the race. Anton is last seen angrily standing on the bridge while the rest of the people celebrate Stuart winning the race. It is not known what happened to Anton afterwards, although he may have been disqualified from any future races at Central Park for cheating by destroying other children's boats. In a deleted scene for the film Anton and his friends appeared earlier in the film outside the shop where the Littles took Stuart to buy clothes for the party and Anton and his friends taunted George about how Anton got a bigger better boat and looked forward to racing George in the race.
Trivia[]
- He seems to be inspired by Leroy, from the novel, and even has the same ship name: the Lillian B Womrath.
